Family Media Channel 2

It’s been a while since the last post, but hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with things.

I shared a previous post about the Family Media Channel, basically they feature original Christ centered cartoon shorts that share the truth of God’s Word in clever and humorous ways.

Below is their latest for the The Parables Of Jesus. This one is entitled, The Unmerciful Servant which is found in Matthew 18:21-35. The acting of the animated characters is this particular short has really improved. I look forward to seeing more from them. On a developers note, this was animated and produced by Zebtoonz.

Friends & Heroes

Here’s the shows description from the Friends & Heroes website;

Friends and Heroes is the epic animated tale of two young people in the First Century – Macky and Portia – whose idealism and friendship leads them across the ancient world, from the fabled Egyptian port of Alexandria, to the besieged city of Jerusalem and finally, to the very heart of the Empire: Rome. As they fight for justice and even survival against the might of the Roman Empire, they become friends and then, in turn, heroes.”

Friends & Heroes is a UK produced animated adventure series. The animation and backgrounds are very well done. What I like about the show is the way they combine 2D animation and 3D animation. The main show featuring the young heroes is done in a traditional 2D style, but when they recount an old testament tale it switches to 3D giving the viewer a clear distinction between the two.

The 3D animation was handled by The Character Shop. The 2D animation was done by Starburst Animation.

Apparently there are 39 episodes in all, quite a bit to choose from.

Below is the shows intro.

Angel Wars

Here’s one that I’ve seen floating around the past few years and was a suggestion to add by Chris Wells a new aquantance of ours from Family Fiction.

Angel Wars is an action packed 3D animated Christian series that features very futuristic looking angels. It’s been around since 2004 with many DVDs and it looks like there is something new brewing. It’s a series from TeleStoryTOONs as well as EMI, CMG and Twentieth Century Fox. The animation was done by Backyard Digital Studios based in LA.

The overall storyline is a the classic good vs. evil, angels vs. demons. The fact that the angels are in futuristic body armor with lasers and cool gadgets makes this a great toon for older kids especially boys. I know my eight year old son likes the action.

If you’re looking for something different and for your slightly older kids who have gotten a bit tired of all the pre-schoolish shows out there, then perhaps Angel Wars will be something good to try.

Below is one of the trailers for Angel Wars.

Family Media Channel

Here’s something a bit different. It’s a new site called Family Media Channel. It features original Christ centered cartoon shorts that share the truth of God’s Word in clever and humorous ways.

I actually watched some of the videos with my kids and they both enjoyed them very much. Our favorites were “The Parables Of Jesus” shorts and since Jesus spoke in many parables we’re looking forward to more of them being made.

This is there mission;
To create a network of like-minded individuals who share our passion for the creation and distribution of Christian media that supports and encourages children in their faith and through our collaboration, build up a comprehensive online resource.

Below is a clip from one of The Parables Of Jesus. To see the entire project and others we encourage you to check out their site.

Lenny & Sid

This is one cartoon I would have liked to see more of, but for some reason we only got two episodes of Lenny & Sid by company Toonacious Family Entertainment which is also no more. Very sad.

The DVD “Love Thy Neighbor” was released in 2003 and was created by the very talented former Disney animator Tony Bancroft and Ben Chambers who actually wrote the episode and was the voice of Sid. The characters are very well done and endearing. Animation is top notch and the backgrounds are excellent.

Lenny & Sid who have very different personalities, Lenny quiet and reserved and Sid very outgoing and out spoken, deal with school life and everything it throws at you including bullies. Throughout the first day at school together they learn that God loves everyone despite their differences.

I recommend tracking this DVD down and getting it for your kids as I did because they’ll love it. And even though Toonacious isn’t around anymore the website is still up and I encourage everyone to visit it and check out the great artwork.

What’s In The Bible?

An exciting new DVD series is coming from Veggie Tales creator Phil Vischer and Focus On The Family, it’s called, “What’s In The Bible?” The series will basically take the viewer through the Bible by using some pretty exciting mediums such as puppets and animation. Not only that but it will help to answer many questions that children my have about God. The first two DVDs, “In the Beginning” and “Let My People Go”, will be released in March.

Salty Graphic Studio LLC, Timbuktoons LLC and even my friend Cedric Hohnstadt had the priveledge of providing animations for the series.

Below is a trailer with Phil Vischer himself talking about this new venture.

Really Woolly

Here’s something new from Dayspring, it’s The Really Woolly Kids DVD series. Really Woolly has been a bestselling card and gift line in the DaySpring portfolio of products for nearly 15 years. These same great messages are now a cartoon.

I like feel of this series. The animation of the characters is simple but works great and I’m sure that kids will love the adventures and humor as well as learn valuable Bible lessons. The background designs are especially nice as they have a painterly feel with pleasing textures and depth.

I encourage you to visit their website Really Woolly Kids to view some video clips and play some really neat games.

I’m not sure who animated it, but if I find out I’ll be sure to post that information.

Here’s One For The Girls

Here’s one for the girls but I must admit has great lessons for everyone. “Gigi, God’s Little Princess” are a series of animated DVDs published by Thomas Nelson and based on the popular books by author Sheila Walsh. If I’m not mistaken I think the animation was done by FLying Rhinoceros.

The over all animation is pretty basic, but I think the subtle humor mixed with a strong Biblical message will draw kids to these cartoons. I know that I’ll be checking into this series for my little daughter.

Below is a trailer for one of the DVDs entitled, “Gigi, God’s Little Princess; Bursting With Readiness“.

Slipped Through The Cracks

Well, here’s one that seems to have slipped through the cracks and I’m not quite certain why. It’s called “On The Farm With Farmer Bob” which features the voices of Amy Grant & Vince Gill with the intro song performed by Randy Travis and was produced in 2004.

The On The Farm With Farmer Bob series are biblically-based stories that teach literacy concepts through reading, faith and fun!

The character designs are well done with equally nice backgrounds. I think the over all voice acting really helps to bring the personalities of these characters to life. The animation was developed by FLying Rhinoceros.

There are several DVDs available from the series as well. I encourage everyone to check this production out.

Below is the cover for one of their DVDs. Several video clips can be viewed on their website.

The Animated Theologian

Theo Cartoons is a series of animations developed by Whitestone Media and headed up by Michael Joen. Michael Joen has worked on many animations for such companies as Hanna Barbera, Filmation, Warner Brothers & Marvel Productions and has now brought that wealth of talent and knowledge to his own cartoon.

Theo Cartoons features an older gentleman named Theo who shares the truth of God’s Word with young viewers in fun and engaging ways. Along with his two “house guests” a couple of mice, kids and adults are sure to be entertained and learn valuable Biblical lessons that will help strengthen their relationship with the Lord.

The look of Theo Cartoons is wonderful. Lush, detailed backgrounds and traditional character animation make this series a must see.

Below is a clip from one of their episodes.

Fantastically Fantastic

Get ready for something completely different. The Fantastic World, (which falls under the storytelling category but still has some animation) is a fun, whacky live action show that features two brothers, Bill & Charles Peterson, (a.k.a Matthew & Jared Young). But don’t let the zaniness fool you, because their heart for God is very evident.

The show’s style brings back fond memories from my childhood as it’s produced much like the Sid & Marty Krofft shows of the seventies, like Sigmund The Sea Monster & Land Of The Lost but with the color and silliness of Peewee’s Playhouse.

I’m also happy to say that my studio, Salty Graphic Studio LLC has had the pleasure of doing some animated shorts for their next project that will be out in 2010.

Below is a trailer for their first DVD called, “Molly Pickens & The Rainy Day Castle” which received 4 out of 5 doves from The Dove Foundation. CLICK HERE to read their review.
